Cortical folding in the brain during embryonic development remains a process which is not yet fully understood. Many mechanical hypotheses are proposed to explain brain convolutions (folds). Researches focused on the human brain are carried out with 2D and 3D numerical simulations, experiments with gel structures, or even with brain organoids, which are sort of like tiny brains in a dish.
