Ising model for biological physics

Phase transitions are essential in physics. They play key roles in biological physics, since many phenomena in living systems exhibit collective effects with critical behavior. However, the underlying physics is still poorly understood and only few models provide analytical solutions. Here, Jose Armangol presents the Ising model, the best paradigm for phase transitions which was originally conceived to explain transition between ferro- and para- magnetism and this model has been later used to model successfully a variety of other phenomena.
